Your will and bequest
It's a common myth that only the rich and famous leave money to charity when they die. The reality is that many charities could not exist without support from people from all walks of life.
Bequestors are special people extend their support for the Butterfly Hospice beyond their own lifetime to ensure that it can continue it's work for many years.
You may already be aware how marvellously supportive in patient hospice care can be and how it's presence can make a difficult situation more bearable.
Through leaving a gift to the Butterfly Hospice Trust in your will you could make a long-term impact on the care and services we provide for our patients, their families and loved ones.
However, we strongly encourage you to discuss your intentions with your close family first if you feel that this is appropriate.
Whatever the contribution you may decide to make, every penny counts towards making a difference at the Butterfly Hospice.
What type of gift can I leave?
You could give a specific sum of money. The
beneficiary will receive precisely the sum you specify. It can, however, be
indexed to rise with the cost of living over time. Your solicitor will
advise you how this can be done.
You could leave a specific item or items from your estate, e.g. a valuable or property.
Residual Legacy: this is a gift from the amount left when all the specific legacies and other gifts have been made and the expenses of administering the estate have been deducted and any inheritance tax that is liable has been paid
CHOOSE A SOLICITOR
You could write your own will but it is MUCH better and safer to go to a solicitor and obtain reliable, professional advice.
A solicitor will also be able to explain the tax implications of what you would like to do.
By making acharitable gift in your will it is even possible to reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable - as all gifts to charity are tax-free.
