After eleven years of hard work, fundraising and support from local communities, businesses and hundreds of volunteers, the Trust has reached a critical milestone in this exciting project. The hospice building was opened by the Princess Royal on 11th April 2011.

Our aim continues to be the provision of in-patient care in a specialist medically controlled environment. However, the Trust has to overcome a significant funding challenge and develop the infrastructure the hospice will need, before we can deliver and sustain the quality service we intend to provide.

We are confident that significant progress will be made in 2012.

An Introduction to the Chief Executive

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Judi Byrne has taken up the post of Chief Executive of the Butterfly Hospice Trust. Chairman Yvonne Slater said that "Judi has over 20 years experience in healthcare including palliative and end of life care service development.

She spent 3 years with the national charity Sue Ryder as the National End of Life and Bereavement Care Lead and recently 2 years in NHS frontline operational management. She has published articles on palliative and end of life care, and is editor and co author of a book entitled ‘Palliative Care in Neurological Conditions’. "

Judi recently returned to her home town of Boston, and combined with her healthcare management experience, her local knowledge is going to be a great asset to the charity.

Judi looks forward to a challenge!

On joining the charity Judi said -

I have been impressed by the unfailing commitment of all of our staff and volunteers and I am privileged to be leading such a dedicated team. There are challenging times ahead but everyone connected with the charity remains focussed & enthusiastic about the opportunities and hard work needed to achieve our goal of a local hospice.

Working in partnership with other healthcare providers to support local patients, carers and their families, we will continue to seek sustainable ways to provide the care that is needed.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me through my first month at the Hospice. I look forward to working with you all in the future"
