After eleven years of hard work, fundraising and support from local communities, businesses and hundreds of volunteers, the Trust has reached a critical milestone in this exciting project. The hospice building was opened by the Princess Royal on 11th April 2011.
Our aim continues to be the provision of in-patient care in a specialist medically controlled environment. However, the Trust has to overcome a significant funding challenge and develop the infrastructure the hospice will need, before we can deliver and sustain the quality service we intend to provide.
We are confident that significant progress will be made in 2012.
The need for specialist care can apply to all age groups with a wide variety of life limiting diseases. For the majority, hospice care will enable symptom control and other support - after which the patient may be able to return home.
Patient choice is of the utmost importance. The choice concerning where the treatment is delivered is likely to be governed by the stage of the illness and/or the need to support carers and family by providing respite care.
Leaving More Than a Wray of Hope!
Sue Wray, the person who has given hope to hundreds of people with her vision for a local, purpose built, hospice has stepped down as Company Secretary of the Butterfly Hospice.
Sue was the driving force behind the mission to build a centre of excellence for the support and treatment of people with life limiting illnesses
Sue says ‘We have achieved much over the previous 11 years but it was the right time to step down. I have worked with the Trustees to find and appoint a Hospice Manager who took up the post on 9th of January
I would like to thank all those who have supported and worked alongside me.
